Custom Wooden Panels
Creating the Panels
I was approached by a client to create two feature pieces that would be placed upon a African Safari themed bar, the Panes would assume the central area of the bar and attached to a ledge that sits above the bar working top. the first concept as discussed with the client had involved a series of acrylic panels that would then be cut into a series of shaped screens that would then project a shape however due to space requirements an alternative concept had to be devised.
after a series of sketches and visiting the chosen location for the panels i decided to go for a set of two large 350mm x 500mm Dark plywood  'Panels' that would sit along the short shelf above the stone splash back.

After using the laser cutter to raster the specific Image (Lion) i had decided to add a 'lower' level to the piece as the emphasis on the shadow that would be cast from the edge of the silhouette would be far greater separating one layer of ply from the other.
The lower level would also follow a separate direction to the higher layer as plywood is placed in opposing directions for structural gains during the glueing process. This subtle contradiction of grain would too work in favour as the emphasis on the higher rastered layer would become far more prominent and would work with the image.
